Priorities

Public Safety

Letitia is working tirelessly to protect New Yorkers from gun violence, illegal firearms and ghost guns. Through gun buyback events and other enforcement efforts, Attorney General James has taken more than 9,600 guns off New York streets. Her office has seized hundreds of pounds of drugs and guns from organized crime rings across New York. She has taken on hate-based violence, including helping to get justice for the victims of the 2022 Buffalo Tops Supermarket shooting.

Jobs and Affordability

Letitia is fighting for New Yorkers to have fair wages and access to good-paying jobs, while protecting the men and women of organized labor. She is laser-focused on keeping costs down for New Yorkers, including from online platforms that would try to raise costs on their customers. She has won millions of dollars in settlements for workers who were improperly denied wages and benefits.

Consumer Protection

Letitia has championed legislation in Albany to protect New York consumers, including The FAIR Business Practices Act, which cracks down on predatory lenders, abusive debt collectors, and dishonest mortgage providers. She has strengthened homeowner protections by spearheading legislation to hold deed thieves accountable. She has taken on some of the biggest companies in the world to protect consumers’ data and private information.

Health Care

Letitia has secured more than $9 billion from individuals and corporations who have taken advantage of New Yorkers and tried to deprive them of their health care access, including more than $3 billion from opioid manufacturers and distributors for their roles in the deadly opioid epidemic and more than $70 million in settlements from neglectful nursing homes.

Protecting Children and Seniors

Thanks to Letitia’s work, New York is leading the nation in protecting children’s mental health online and protecting seniors from scams that hurt their health and take property from them.

She has been investigating nursing homes throughout New York based on concerns of patient neglect and other conduct that endangers the health and safety of residents and employees, both before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Immigration

Letitia has led the fight to protect immigrants in New York and across the country against the Trump administration’s chaotic and illegal immigration activities. From standing up a Legal Observation Project to monitor federal immigration activity, to filing lawsuits to protect birthright citizenship, AG James is a fierce defender of immigrants, their rights, and their contributions to our communities and economy.

Housing

Letitia has a decades-long track record of protecting housing rights for vulnerable New Yorkers. As Attorney General, she has sued landlords and owners across New York for violating the rights of renters, tenants, and those using vouchers to access affordable housing. From Buffalo to New York City, she has won millions of dollars for people who were wronged by their landlords.

Election Security

Letitia is leading the national fight to protect the 2026 elections from the federal government’s attempts to federalize voting. From urging Congress to reject the SAVE Act, to standing up to the President’s illegal executive order that would have seized control of the states’ role administering the elections, she is bringing together elected officials, civic and faith groups and more to protect Americans’ sacred right to vote.
